NO POSITION PAPERS ARE REQUIRED FOR UNITED STATES SENATE
United States Senate
The 115th Congress has already seen a number of debates on various issues. This weekend we will be simulating the United States Congress and attempt to compromise on various pieces of legislation. The current US Senate majority leader is Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and the Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
Republicans have a narrow lead in Senate, with 51 members of the GOP, 47 from the DNC, and 2 Independent senators. With re-elections already fast approaching for many Congressional members, it is imperative that representatives on both sides of the aisle are willing to compromise on large issues, such as tax reform, healthcare, social issues, and much more.
This weekend you will all be Senators in the US Senate, hoping to tackle the issues of gun reform and DACA. Remember to keep your characters’ political ideologies in mind, but be mindful that if compromise is unable to be reached, no legislation will be passed and Senate will remain in gridlock, disappointing constituents who will be deciding whether or not you are re-elected.
Best of luck this weekend in learning how difficult it can be to be true to your own political beliefs and values while maintaining the willingness to reach across the political aisle and reach a compromise for the betterment of America.
