UN General Assembly 3rd Committee: Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural
The General Assembly allocates to the Third Committee, agenda items relating to a range of social, humanitarian affairs and human rights issues that affect people all over the world. The Committee discusses questions relating to the advancement of women, the protection of children, the treatment of refugees, the promotion of fundamental freedoms through the elimination of racism and racial discrimination, and the right to self- determination. The Committee also addresses important social development questions. At SBIMUN 2017 the Third Committee will be addressing two important human rights issues, political representation for women, and LGBTQ+ rights throughout the world. These are important issues to tackle as we move into a modern era of liberal international norms and acceptance that the rights of women, minorities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community are human rights that must be protected and advanced.
